Thursday Night Music & Light
Thursdays from 7:30 - 9:30 pm
Every Thursday evening, we create a dance with grooving music, vibrant lighting, mind-blowing projected visuals and live voices and instruments. It’s a trippy, playful and uplifting experience, with residents DJ Herb and live visualist Andrew Juris, and occasional guest artists and DJs.
TNM&L is a community-oriented event, and we welcome all ages and abilities.
We support the principles of a gift-based economy, and the event is free of charge - although we do accept donations. see the About page for more details on this.
Doors open at 7:15 pm. Arrive between 7:15 pm and 7:30 pm, if you can (or whenever you get there, if you can’t). At 9:00 pm - Music & Light stops, closing circle happens. Afterwards, you’re welcome to join us for chit-chat in the kitchen and snacks. Bring something edible to share if you want to.
This Here Space is located in a private home near Ashby BART in South Berkeley. It includes a 500-square foot "playroom" with a sprung dance floor, a nice sound system, an installed video projector, some DJ lights, and custom and natural lighting, plus a roomy kitchen and an outdoor patio.
This Here Space was created with the intention of building and supporting community. We hope it's a place where people who are disabled or not, young or old, gay or straight, etc. can explore and practice free expression, social interaction, and physical and emotional well-being, in a spirit of kindness and generosity.
Dances at This Here Space are offered as gifts to our fellow humans. We were inspired in this and many other ways by Soul Sanctuary Dance. We invite you to pay this generosity forward for others, in whatever amount or manner you choose.
If you have any questions, feel free to email us.
Mindful Movement: Yoga, You, and Parkinson's
Fridays from 11:00 am - 12:15 pm
Yoga is one of the most beneficial complementary therapies for Parkinson’s disease, helping to increase flexibility; improve posture; loosen tight muscles; build (or rebuild) confidence; and, through these benefits, enhance quality of life.
Pamela Perry and Aileen Kim will alternate teaching the class; they have both been long-term volunteers for PD Active’s Yoga for PD classes.
This class is not just for people with Parkinson’s. Friends, family, caregivers, and anyone else are welcome!
Suggested donation $10-$15. No one turned away for lack of funds.
